Story
Hello and a sincere thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Matt and I are taking part in the Stonewall Annual 10 KM walk to be held in Barcelona in July. This is the second time this event has taken place and it is one of Stonewall's major fund raising activities. The money raised is to be used to help Stonewall to fund its 'Education for All Program' and will be used to tackle homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools.
Why is this important, well here are a few facts:
Stonewall research shows that lesbian and gay students are more likely to leave school at 16 despite achieving grades that merit continuing their education. In fact, 2 in 5 gay students fear bullying will continue if they stay.
3 in 4 bullied gay students feign illness or play truant to escape the impact of bullying.
And the effects of homophobic bullying aren't just limited to young gay people; they can affect any student perceived to be different.
Yet despite all this, just 6% of British schools have fully inclusive anti-bullying policies which specifically address homophobic bullying.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Stonewall will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now! Please dig deep and help us reach our £1000 target!
Many thanks for your support.
