Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

In September my brother James and I will be tackling Africa's second highest mountain, Mount Kenya to raise funds for Vision Africa. We got invloved with Vision Africa projects through family in Manchester and have helped sponsoring people taking part in other challenges in the past. When we heard about this challenge we thought it would be a great opportunity to raise some much needed funds for the projects Vision Africa are currently involved in. It also gives us an opportunity to visit and see first hand the projects the money we raise will be financing and the people whose lives, with your help, we will be improving.

Some interesting facts about the trek - Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain and sits right on the equator. While it is a little lower than its sibling, Mount Kilimanjaro, it is said to be a more difficult and more interesting trek. It's not all fun and games though as there is only about a 70% success rate and its well into high altitude trekking territory at around 5000m. But for us only a serious challenge is good enough to raise serious money, so please give generously.

You might be concerned that you are simply giving for us to have a great holiday but that's really not the case. We've paid for the trip ourselves and any money donated through this site, apart from justgiving's small admin fee, will go straight to where it is needed - to help the children. Vision Africa relies on volunteers like us, so there are no big overheads to sap your donation. This really is a fantastic chance to make a real difference in the lives of many children that would otherwise have no future to look forward to.

You can visit Vision Africa at www.vision-africa.org to find out all about the charity. I hope you agree with us that this is a really worthwhile cause. We wouldn't be risking life and limb if we didn't think it was worth it!

If you can give a few pounds (or a few hundred) to sponsor us we would be really grateful. Please send details of our trek and this webpage to your contacts!

Many thanks,

                         Matthew             James
