Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Dear One and All,

Having survived the New Zealand Ironman in January I’ve decided to have another go this summer.  Not the other side of the world this time, but on my Dorset doorstep!

As the 2007 British Ironman’s spectacular countryside course includes Quince Cottage, Cerne Abbas along the route, the temptation to roll out of bed and join in is too great(!).  It’s also a good opportunity to raise some money for a charity close to home – The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS).  In addition to their contributions to medical research, the Society provides a national Help-Line and has 300 local branches throughout the country.  They also employ approximately 200 Specialist Nurses who offer advice and practical help on a one-to-one basis. Your sponsorship money will go towards their campaign to fund an additional 30 specialist nurses. As a family we value their assistance and feel this is a great opportunity to support a charity which is working so hard to provide vital information, care, treatment, and, ultimately a cure for this debilitating disease.

The swimming (3.8km), cycling(180km) and running(42km) event itself starts first thing Sunday morning and will go on all day. Mum and Dad,  Marina and Chris will provide on-going vittals and drinks at my house during Sunday which you can dip in and out of whilst observing desperate athletes struggle around the countryside! An excellent spectator event – your expressions of vocal support and amusement will provide well-appreciated and necessary encouragement.  And if the idea of 1500 men and women in tight lycra and wet swimsuits is not enough of an incentive, you can celebrate my 30th birthday as well!

I would really appreciate your sponsorship and support and if you feel the urge please do come down and join the ‘Carnival’!
