Meera's Family Triathlon - Celebrating 10 years living with Cancer

Amit Shah is raising money for Shine Cancer Support

A Family Triathlon Celebrating 10 years living with Cancer · 8 May 2021

Shine supports adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. Too old for children and teenage services but too young for traditional cancer support, we support the people who fall into a devastating cancer support gap.

Story

A family triathlon of 10’s

This month is 10 years since Meera’s first cancer diagnosis
and 10 years of learning about life with cancer (I know….can you believe it’s been 10 years?) In that time, we’ve faced radiotherapy in 2011, then chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant in 2019 following a relapse. Meera is currently on her 16th cycle of maintenance chemotherapy to keep the myeloma at bay.

We wanted to do something that reflected our family interests to mark the occasion (cake eating was considered) and to raise money for a fantastic grassroots charity that has supported us all since its inception.

We have decided to complete a triathlon over half term based
on the number 10.

  • Meera, Rohan and Amit will walk 10km (although it may have to be over 2-3 days depending on how the tumour in Meera’s knee behaves). - 4th & 5th June
  • Rohan (aged 10-see the theme) and Amit will cycle 10 miles.
  • Finally, Amit will cycle 100km (North London to Brighton) kindly supported by a few of his cycling buddies. - 30th May
  • A number of Amit's colleagues from Santander are going to walk 10km in support as well

Shine Cancer Support is the only charity in the UK exclusively focused on supporting adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have been diagnosed with cancer.

As with other charities, they have suffered through the pandemic with reduced fundraising events, but have still managed to continue their outstanding support online.
