Hi everyone, During the Covid-19 outbreak, mental health charities need help more than ever, those who are suffering or living with mental health conditions are even more vulnerable at this time, having not being able to get the contact with other people they so dearly need. In addition, there are many others developing more acute conditions as a result of the Coronavirus restrictions.
- It was my brother who sadly passed away due to mental health in 2017. I like to fundraise in honour of him to help others, as things were hard for Jonathan, things are especially hard for others with mental health problems at this unprecedented time
- Jonathan was amazingly good at anything technical, mechanical and computing- had a hidden talent, and in kindness spent much time thinking how to use his expertise to help others.

Save the UK's Charities
General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income.
This impacts all sectors of society from children to the elderly as well as the vital work in areas such as palliative care, serious diseases, mental health, housing support, food supplies and countless others that charities support.
Charities that focus on mental health , like mind do endless work to be a resource and support for conditions which are overlooked by many other bodies, partly due to the lack of understanding in mental health.
Mind: “Your donation could give someone hope and help them know they’re not alone.”
“With your help, we can be there for everyone who needs us”
Individuals can feel neglected or misunderstood especially under these restrictions leading to greater anxiety or deeper depression on top of an underlying condition. The charity mind has a great resource to transform and save lives.
In my time whilst in lockdown, I feel I’ve been sitting in my living room, playing chess, and apart from the recommended ‘staying at home’ not really doing anything useful, so I’ve decided to do something to help those who are most isolated within themselves.
My passion stems from....
- I lost my brother Jonathan in November 2017 due to mental health
- I have a friend in which I can only see too real the problems they are going through. Mental illness is very cruel and causes a difficult life and upset for the individual and many people in contact with don’t understand what they’re going through.
So, what I’ve decided to take on both a mental and physical challenge....
I will be doing a daily 5k run around my local park, but not just running but playing online chess at the same time! From 1st May 2020 to 31st May.
(This will be in accordance with my daily exercise where I’ll be doing this between 8-9 am, if it rains then I’ll select the earliest available time).
Its my passion to do something ‘mindful’ for mind. to raise a good contribution to help those in desperate need as a result of this unprecedented time. Thank you- Megan.
