Figures tell us that 3 in 5 of us will at some point take on a caring role. Carers juggle their own day to day life with their caring responsibilities. A role made more difficult by the current backdrop of stretched health and social care services.
I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many carers over the last few years through my work and time and time again, I'm struck by the way that they embrace difficulties with a pragmatic and determined 'if we don't solve the problems, who will?'. Driven by love and often sacrificing their own hopes, goals and aspirations. Sometimes, at the expense of their own health and wellbeing.
Newcastle Carers is a small, local, independent charity working citywide to provide dedicated confidential information and support to adult unpaid carers who are caring for someone living in Newcastle. They provide support to unpaid carers who care for a family member or friend who is ill, has a physical or learning disability, has mental health, or substance misuse problems, and could not manage without their help. Newcastle carers provides carers with emotional support, gives them access to information and advice, facilitates groups and creates a space where they can be listened to.
So I’m raising money for them because I think it’s vital that we care for those who care. All money raised will go directly to Newcastle carers as I paid the entrance fee myself.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
