Story
Well, the deed is done and I survived. Thank you so much for your kind donations and support. The important thing is that in total over £800 has been raised for the British Heart Foundation thanks for your support.
Yesterday's run was a fantastic experience with great highs and lows. I was running well until about mile 16, on target for around 4 hours and 25 min. Then, it all went down hill from there and I slowed down and the last 8-10 miles was a real struggle and I finished in 4.40 in the end. The worst bit was coming towards the finish in The Mall when I thought the finish line was just there but a sign said it was 800m away. This last 800m felt like another 3 miles!
It was a real mental as well as physical challenge especially as we got soaked twice by heavy rain. It was good to see Mark cheering me on at Tower Bridge and to know that he was getting wet too.
The atmostphere and crowds were amazing and really helped me get around the course. There were great displays of courage from other runners young and old, running with disabilities or with crazy outfits to raise extra funds for charity.
All in all a great experience, but not one I am keen to repeat in the near future! I got up to some things which I wouldn't usually do such as peeing in bushes and accepting offers of vaseline and jelly babies from strangers in the street!
Thanks again for your support. All the very best, Mel
