For a while now, i've been wanting to give something back. When I saw this wonderful trek I knew this was it....
As you all know, I am currently working for the Merlin Entertainments (London eye) who set up the Merlin magic Wand charity. So, I already feel quite connected to the cause already. For those of you who don't know what the Merlin Magic wand charity is all about I will explain. They are a world wide children's charity whom aim to provide amazing experiences at their many attractions (London eye, madam Tussauds, Alton towers, Thorpe park, numerous Sea life centres and the list continues) for those who are seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged. For those children who aren't in the position for whatever reason to enjoy these fantastic attractions the merlin magic wand makes this dream a reality. Shouldn't kids be kids and be able to go out there, run around and have fun? :) well, this is why this charity is so amazing. They donate thousands of tickets which go towards letting these kids be just that...kids, and have a truly wonderful experience.
So I hear you say - what is the trek all about. well.....I depart the UK on the 28th April 2011 bound for Lima. The first and second day are spent settling in and acclimatising to the altitude. On our third day our trek begins and over the following four days we will continue to trek around the area passing villages, ancient inca sites and of course breath taking scenery eventually leading us to the amazing Machu Picchu site. We will be trekking up to 7 hours each day so its going to be a lot of hard work on my part physically, mentally and emotionally. I don't think I will understand how tough it will be till I get out there. We then fly back to the UK after a day of recovering on the 7th May.
Also in preparation for my trek I'll be adhering to a 12 week training programme to get me fit as a fiddle. Which will be lots of hard work but will be totally worth it. :D
I will personally be donating as much as I can towards the fund raising total. I really am so determined to reach this target to show that I am willing to put myself through a gruelling challenge to show my respect for this charity. So yes, the Trek will be an amazing experience but its not going to be easy for me.
I'm planning to do so much to reach my fund-raising total of £3400 including massage days, bake sales, maybe a little party or two, dinner parties, bit of car washing, talent auction....the ideas are endless.
So ladies and gents, guys and girls please support this fantastic charity and my trek in any way you can!!!!!!! They make a big difference to so many childrens lives!
