STOP PRESS
Unfortunately Mike had a confrontation with a cycle path curb on Monday 20th July resulting in him being admitted initially to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and transferred on Thursday 23rd July to York District Hospital. It looks as if he has broken a hip and will not therefore be completing the cycle ride. His brother-in-law Peter is continuing the ride for the two of them.
Mike is concerned that you have already given your support to his adventure and as he is no longer able to complete the challenge feels you may wish to have your sponsorship reimbursed. Should you wish to do this please telephone St Leonard's Hospice on York (01904) 77 77 77 and they will be pleased to arrange this for you.
I am sure you join me in wishing Mike well and Peter a safe completion of the challenge.
Janet Morley
Director of Fundraising
St Leonard's Hospice
Despite the fact that I am neither the ideal shape nor weight for the venture at present I am intending to do a cycle ride for charity this summer. My brother-in-law Peter (brother of my wife Julie) and I, are planning to ride bicycles from Land's End to John O' Groats at the end of July, and into as much of August as it takes us, to raise money for St. Leonard's Hospice in York and the Nottinghamshire Hospice in Nottingham where Peter lives. A more unlikely couple to do this would be difficult to imagine. The route we have chosen is about 935 miles assuming we don't get lost. Although I have not ridden a bicycle for a very long time I have now bought one and have started training seriously. Believe me, I am determined to do this.
Sadly we all know too many family and friends who have had need of a hospice. St. Leonard's provides care that has to be seen to be believed but is only partly funded by central Government and only then to a small degree. It needs to raise approximately £8000 per day to keep running. My aim is to raise enough to fund the running of the Hospice for one day and every penny of support from you on this website will go to St. Leonard's.
If you have received this appeal more than once please forgive me. In an attempt to try and reach as many people as reasonably possible it could be that I have already sent it to you. I hope you understand that it is in an attempt not to miss anyone out rather than pester you twice!
I don't like asking for sponsorship money but for once in my life I am not ashamed to ask you to give a donation, no matter how small, to help me achieve my target. Thanks in advance to all those who can offer their support.
Mike Bainbridge
