As many of you may already know in April 2004 my husband, Steven, was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML). I had given birth to our son (Jake) just four weeks previously so the news came as a tremendous shock to us all.
After his initial treatment with chemotherapy Steven is now on medication (Glivec) and is responding extremely well to his treatment. Although not cured his condition is stable for the time being.
It is thanks to the Leukaemia Research Fund that his treatment was available and that he is doing so well today. Leukaemia Research is the only UK charity devoted exclusively to Leukaemia and related blood cancers. 24,500 people are diagnosed in the UK every year. I am running the 2005 Great North Run on September 18th to help raise money for Leukaemia Research. I am training 2-3 times a week and hope to complete the run in a respectable time.
