Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have set up this page on behalf of my family, for those people who wish to make a donation in dads memory.

Mick Hartlett, my dad, was a wonderful man who was always on the go. In December 2011 he took ill whilst at a football match watching his beloved Coventry City. We didn't think it was anything serious so when he was sent to hospital in January 2012 and tests revealed he had a brain tumour, me and my family were so shocked and upset.

Dad was sent to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry the day after diagnosis and just days later he under went surgery to remove what they could of the tumour. The operation was a success and they removed 3/4's of the tumour. Dad went on to have radiotherapy and chemotherapy to shrink the rest of the tumour and it was working. Dad was doing ok up until August 2013.

In August 2013 dad became unwell again and was taken back to Walsgrave hospital in Coventry, where tests revealed a second brain tumour. We were devastated but dad carried on fighting and carried on having chemotherapy.

In May 2014 dad was diagnosed with diabetes and this didn't help matters. In June this year we were told that the chemotherapy dad was having had stopped working and the tumours were getting bigger. By this point dad didn't really understand what was going on and was very poorly. The doctors tried a different chemotherapy and it stabilised the tumours.

In October, it was a normal morning at home but things changed very quickly. Dad had a fit at home, an ambulance was called and he was rushed to Walsgrave hospital.

Doctors kept dad in hospital to monitor him as he had a chest infection. The chest infection got worse and dad got pneumonia. Doctors done all they could to help dad but 2 years and 9 months after diagnosis dad passed away on Friday 24th October 2014.

Anybody of any age can get a brain tumour and there is hardly any funding available for research. If the money we raise can help just one family then we will be happy.
