Welcome one! Welcome all!
To those of you who've donated on the PoundAMile site to the MS society, thanks a bunch. We've smashed the target and are now diverting new donations to Myeloma UK.
How did it all begin? Well, on a fateful december morning with Team Pound A Mile, that's Milo, Andy and Ed, had a headache, lots of credit card receipts and the words 'April: Marathon, July: Cycle' written on a napkin in biro. On realising that the vow was not only made between ourselves but Ed's boss, our mates and the entire capacity of a central London pub, we realised that there was no getting out of it: the places on Brighton Marathon 2010 were reserved and the bike trip from Athens to Paris was booked. During the training, saddle sores and blisters my mother was hospitalised with MS and we made a pact to raise a pound for every mile for every mile travelled by foot or tyre. The support was phenomenal and we hit our target of £2026 in late June. The last donation was made on the behalf of Janine Thomason, who sadly died shortly afterwards from Multiple Myeloma. Janine a mother, friend and grandmother left behind a family that had also lost their father, Keith, in 2002 from the same condition. Janine Thomason donated £50 to the MS society on our behalf and the very least that we can do to honor two people and a family that have endured so much is to whack on some shorts, rub in some sun block and get pedalling.
Myeloma UK is a charity dedicated to meeting the needs of myeloma sufferers and their families, funding research and raising awareness. Andy and I are funding this trip ourselves: it's not part of an organised event and so all of your money will go directly to Myeloma UK. Remember to include the Gift Aid!
Thanks
