Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and a huge thank you to everyone who has been generous so far. In fact it is going so well, thanks to you all, that my dad has upped my target and I am now so close to making that as well.

***** Great News - I have now arrived safely in the south of France, on the 16th July, after covering 1,128 miles. *****

When I was 12 my mum died of Cancer. Now I'm old enough I want to do something to help other people and Cancer Research

On July 11th 2011 I am going to ride my 50cc moped 1,000 miles from Warrington in Cheshire to near Toulon in the south of France. I got it and learned to ride on my 16th birthday in January. I can only travel at 30mph maximum and can't use motorways so it is going to take about 5 days. On the first day I won't even get far enough to cross into France! I expect I will end up with a sore bum by the end of it. I will keep everyone up to date with my progress on the way down through my facebook page or Twitter (#mopeddash).

My aim is to be sponsored all the way down for at least £1 per mile - so 1,000 miles = £1,000 and I would be grateful for your support.

My mum was originally diagnosed with bowel cancer. £1,000 covers the cost of one patient on a clinical trial aiming to improve recovery for bowel cancer patients after surgery. It would be great to try and put two people on a clinical trial.

I am also asking organisations to help with the petrol, ferry and overnight stops so that all your donations go to Cancer Research. The following have generously given their support and if you get the chance maybe you could support them:

* DFDS Seaways - Ferry Crossing dfdsseaways.co.uk

* Fujitsu - a donation to fuel expenses and time off (my dad works for them) fujitsu.com/uk

* QHotels - our first, and unexpectedly luxurious, hotel at Ashford. qhotels.co.uk

* Rezidor Hotels - for another touch of hotel luxury near Lyon - we'll need it. rezidor.com

My dad is coming along to help me and is also riding a scooter.

With your generous help I am sure I will reach and even exceed my target

Thank you,

Kathryn x
