Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  You can also follow my efforts on Facebook : Morven And Megan’s Uganda Trip Fundraising Page 2018

In July 2018, I will be returning to Uganda with another Abaana team on a missionary trip along with my daughter Megan.   Visit www.abaana.org for more info on Abaana and the work they do in Uganda.

To raise funds towards my trip and projects, I will be taking up the 365 day challenge, by wearing my shorts for 365 continuous days during my post rounds as a Dungannon postman.  Thus guaranteeing that I will experience everything the unpredictable Northern Irish weather has to offer.  In fact if weather predictions are correct, it is giving our coldest winter since 5 years ago, so there will be no escape from the big freeze.

And to make this challenge more interesting, on Tuesday 5th December, I will be getting my legs and chest waxed in work just in time for the winter weather.  You will be able to view this on facebook during a live feed.  To follow my efforts, you can follow me on my facebook page, "Morven and Megan's Uganda Trip Fundraising Page 2018."  Here you will be able to view a video I made using photos I had taken from my trip to Uganda in 2016.

UPDATE...10/5/2018  WATER FILTER APPEAL                                                                 To date, Megan and I have raised £5400, £2000 over our target for the trip, so we can purchase water filters for 100 families with this extra money raised so far.

On our up coming trip out to Uganda with Abaana, it is our hope as a team to raise enough money to be able to purchase and supply all the families at the 4 Abaana schools that we be visiting, with a water filter, bucket and jerrycan. We will also give them full training on how to use and maintain the filters and give them the human right to have access to clean drinking water. Something that we take for granted in our country.
This will cost £20 to supply each family and we estimate that we will need app 600-700. A massive undertaking but with your support we can reach our target.  These water filters will last approximately 10 years if properly maintained and is capable of  filtering around 1,000,000 gallons of water over its lifetime.  It will also filter 99.9% of all harmful bacteria in the water.

Help a family to have clean drinking water.
Everyday, millions of woman and children will walk miles to fetch, dirty, contaminated water from open water sources. These water sources are often heavily polluted with human and animal waste, bacteria, rotting debris and other harmful pollutants.
Just under 10 million people in Uganda do not have access to safe drinking water and approximately 26,000 children die every year in Uganda from water-borne diseases.
75% of all diseases in Uganda are a direct result of lack of clean water and proper sanitation. The most common of these are diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid and cholera.
In Africa, more than 6,000 children die every day from drinking unclean water, main cause of death is from diarrhoea related diseases.
Please help us to change the lives for as many families as possible. Water-borne diseases and related deaths can be reduced by 94% with safe, clean water and proper hygiene. That is 24,440 children a year in Uganda.

So if you are on Facebook, I would really appreciate it if you would like and share my page and help spread the word and not just help promote my fundraising page, but also raise the awareness of Abaana ministries and the great work they do for the children living in poverty in Africa

Thank you for your support,
