Liverpool Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon 2019 · 26 May 2019 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

My grandad, Arthur Reece, known to his family and friends as Bud, suffered from vascular dementia. He was such a loving, warm, gentle man and did not deserve to battle such a cruel illness. I will be participating in the Liverpool 'Rock 'n' Roll' Half Marathon in loving memory of Bud. The donations you make will go to the Alzheimer's Society.

Vascular dementia is the second most common type of dementia (after Alzheimer's disease), affecting around 150,000 people in the UK.

The word ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.

These changes are often small to start with, but for someone with dementia they have become severe enough to affect daily life.

The vast majority of causes of dementia cannot be cured, although research is continuing into developing drugs, vaccines and other medical treatments.

Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today.
