Thank you to all those who donated generously towards the carpet for the Musalla Area. May Allah reward you all with much goodness in this life and the next, and may you all reap the rewards from all those that pray at Andalus.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's been almost two years since we moved into our new premises.
So far we have established regular Friday prayers for men, women and children, with the khutbah delivered in the english language. The last two Ramadans we have held Tarawih prayers and we hope, inshaAllah, in the near future to have a facilty to offer the daily prayers.
Currently our carpet is not comfortable to sit on and we are using sheets with musallas on them. We are looking, inshaAllah, with your help to carpet the prayer area. So far from our previous fundraising we have raised £4000 which was specifically for Musalla spaces. We hope, inshaAllah, to raise the other amount by offering people a Musalla space for £50, you can buy more than one, previously the musalla space was £500, that would be equivalent now to ten musalla spaces. If enough people buy these spaces then we will inshaAllah reach our target.
The carpet will be 100% wool from Turkey with a line designating the place people should stand whilst praying. The cost includes underlay and fitting. The company we hope to use to provide the carpets are Taqwa Carpets http://www.taqwacarpets.com/ .
Our vision is to create a Beacon Institute and Community Hub. We are working towards breaking barriers and community integration by promoting understanding and sharing the rich and diverse Muslim cultural tradition, and at the same time embracing our Scottish roots.
Our motto is the same motto that was placed above the entrance to the major universities of Andalusia during the Muslim era:
“The world is held by four pillars:
the wisdom of the learned,
the justice of the great,
the prayers of the righteous,
and the valour of the brave."
Our current work includes an imaginative Arabic playgroup for pre-school children, an educational mother and toddlers group, Arabic language and Qur'anic recitation classes for over a 100 adults and children, a creative arts and crafts project, Calligraphy workshops and a youth character development project based on sports called the Rihla.
Andalus was founded in Glasgow, January 2000.
