Story
It may come as a surprise, but I've always wanted to do a marathon! It's on my bucket list. But I've never fancied being too far away from a toilet, a sandwich or a cocktail!
2020 will be remembered for many things - I want to remember it as the year I did a marathon! With the above caveats in mind, doing a lockdown marathon by walking up and down my road seems like an ideal compromise!
Why?
Well there are a few reasons - but these are the two main ones:
1. To celebrate 10 years since I was last in lockdown! This time 10 years ago I was in isolation being treated in The Christie. I'd just had a stem cell transplant - treatment for a rare Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and had no immune system! Cancer patients rely on effective antibiotics to help them fight infections when their own immune systems can't.
2. COVID-19 opens the door to secondary bacterial infections and patients are dying because antibiotics don't always work. Antibiotic Research is a vital charity doing really relevant and important work.
What?
I live on a lovely road, with lots of lovely people. What could be finer during lockdown than doing a brisk walking marathon.
A circuit of Princes Rd in Sale (down and back) is just under 0.5K. Which means I should only need to do it about 84 times! I've done some practicing and I think I should be able to do it in 8hrs. But to be on the safe side I'm aiming to complete it between
7am - 7pm on Sunday 26th April.
Please note that you can also sponsor me to do silly stuff while I'm walking, as long as it doesn't interrupt my flow! Singing, wearing silly hats, reciting the periodic table …… if the price is right I'll give it a go! I'll also try and give regular updates on Facebook (I might try and master Facebook Live) and I've joined Strava!
