The main thrust of our work at the present time is in the following areas: • The promotion of social entrepreneurship and support of social entrepreneurs. • Encouraging the participation of young people in issues that affect them as young people and in wider society. • Enabling poor communities to address issues and problems in their lives. • Addressing the needs of families and their health and wellbeing, especially young families and early years children, • Addressing the issues of environmental sustainability and climate change. • The advancement of mathematics. • Experimenting with and investigating new forms of sustainable finance in support of these objectives.

Story

Get involved, sponsor the great work that MyBnk is doing:

Our Vision:
Is to provide young people with the understanding and skills to manage their money effectively and to make enterprising choices in their lives.

Our Aims:
•    To help young people become less financially excluded and debt ridden by increasing their financial capability and money management skills.
•    To develop young people's enterprise skills to better equip them for an increasingly competitive job market.
•    To develop an awareness of ethical financial practices and social enterprise amongst young people so that they become agents for social change.
•    To use financial services as a fun and practical youth led learning tool that supports the development of young people's personal skills, responsibility and participation.

Our ethos:
Young people are involved in all stages of service development and delivery.

What We Do:
MyBnk runs 2 services the MyBnk-in-a-box, for secondary schools and the Young Peoples’ MyBnk, for formerly homeless young people. Both use financial services as an educational tool to teach financial capability, enterprise capability and personal skills. They are banks-in-a-box and are run by young people for young people providing savings facilities and small interest free loans for young people to set up money-making world changing activities (enterprising activities). The MyBnk services are unique, catered to the participant’s needs and fun to use.

Some Achievements:
- A volunteer scheme that works: MyBnk has become home to 30 fantastic volunteers between the ages of 16 and 42.
-  A strong advisory panel that inspires and guides us. Made up of young people, CEOs, social entrepreneurs, bankers, educationalists and more.
-  A cool name/ brand/ website: the MyBnk look is fresh and interactive, inspired by frequent brainstorming sessions with young people.
-  Fun learning resources: our online ‘hotseats’ (interviews with real life entrepreneurs like John Bird) are very popular with teachers who have started using then in citizenship classes. They inspire young people to believe in their own abilities and to think socially.
-  Research and evaluation have given us insight into the realities of the environment where we work and have led to the development of a content appropriate project. We have developed a rigorous evaluation process that enables us to monitor how we create social change.
-  Friends with the FSA who have given us full support.
-  Including the most excluded: MyBnk, John Bird and Foyer Federation are working to address financial exclusion amongst young homeless people.

Our Feedback:
“Reach as many young people as you can, I believe your project is essential, in a young persons education” Youth worker from ‘Services against Financial exclusion’

“An excellent initiative, a real opportunity for students to learn enterprise skills and responsibility” Mr. Roberts Head of year 8 BGTC

“Keep inspiring youth to make good use of their time, keep informing them on how to make money without resorting to things like drug dealing”, says Usamah 16 years old, one of our participants.
