Every single day, 15 people are killed or injured because of landmines and other explosive weapons. Almost half of all civilian casualties are children. MAG finds and destroys these weapons to save lives and rebuild futures; helping people to grow crops, attend school and build homes.

Story

Just to let you know that I met some of the people I shall be going to Cambodia with last week, and we now have an email group so I am chatting to more people about going. There are 16 of us, 13 women and 3 men, with ages ranging from 25 - 71 and some MAG and Action Challenge (who are organising it for MAG) reps including two (volunteer) doctors. This includes people from Australia, Austria, USA, South Korea, Luxembourg and The Netherlands and some from the UK. I think it is unusual to get such a range of nationalities, some of the people came across MAG whilst travelling in Laos and Cambodia and realised what a lot of (money and) work needs doing to get rid of the mines.

My group is going to north-west Cambodia, flying to Siem Reap and then trekking up the Kullen River, our village is called Phum Thlat (and I think it is small as I haven't managed to find it on a map yet). Thanks to your generosity we are going to be working on two houses this time. And even bigger thanks from me as some of the money has already been spent putting three walls around the village toilet area (thank you SO much). There is also sufficient money to improve the materials for the building so the frame is already in place set in concrete (this is new) so that the wood does not rot so quickly and it will have a corrugated iron roof instead of bamboo.

The good news for next week is that I do not need to have further jabs for tetanus, polio or diptheria but the bad news is I do have to have them for Hepatitis A, typhoid and rabies (arghhh) and get my malaria tabs' prescription.

Thanks for all your ideas about things to take for the children in the village school, I have also found out that the profits from Siem Reap hotel we are staying in go to support the education of local children in SR.

Thank you all

Nannette
