I had a fleeting moment last summer when i thought it would be a good idea to sign up for a half marathon. Multiple injuries later and with only 2 weeks to go, i'm not so sure! But i'm doing it anyway and as i'm approaching the half way point on 7th May thinking to myself "why the hell am i doing this?!" I'll remember why... 

I had a relatively minor dalliance with OCD in my mid 20's, and that gave me some insight into how our minds can be cruel to us sometimes. But my experience of OCD is nothing compared to the majority of the people I have the privilege of working with as a therapist. To tackle OCD takes incredible courage and to be honest, time and time again i'm blown away by people and what they endure on their quest to overcome it.

Shame and embarrassment often envelops itself around OCD and as a result, people often don't speak out or seek help. OCD-UK is an invaluable support to those people, who are able to namelessly access information, resources and support from their website and when they are ready to, find help in whichever format feels most comfortable to them. They also help and support family members who are trying to support the individual with OCD. 

On top of all that, they are trying to break down the stigma of OCD and get the word out there about it, educating people. So many people suffer in silence, scared, not even sure what is happening in their minds. The more people that know about and understand OCD, the less people will feel they need to hide it. In turn, more people will access help and support sooner and be able to live and happier, freer life away from OCD.

I know that requests appear on our facebook feeds daily for donations to various fundraising things and I can only apologise to adding to that! Please don't feel obliged, but if you can spare anything to help this amazing charity do their thing, i would be so grateful. No donation is too small.
