Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have always admired individuals challenging themselves to raise money for a good cause. I came across the Victoria Foundation by chance through a very good friend. My mother has kindly accepted to look after my two children whilst I am challenging myself trekking for 6 days in Vietnam.

I am increasing my training hours weekly to raise my endurance for 7-9hrs of trekking a day over undulating terrain. My biggest challenge will be not having my own shower and comfortable bed and the dreaded mosquito bites, which I am highly allergic to!

I am looking forward to the challenge with anticipation and palpitation. Our trekking challenge begins in the charming city of Hanoi before heading to the beautiful Hoa Binh Providence located in the mountainous area of southeast Hanoi. We pass through some of the most untouched and lush scenery in Asia. At night we will be guests in village homes and spend time learning about the local culture. This challenge is 100% funded by myself and any money raised will be totally donated to the Victoria Foundation.

The Victoria Foundation was set up in 2007 upon the sale of the New Victoria Hospital. The foundation is providing medical support and equipment in four key areas, which the Foundation's trustees have identified as potential gaps in the provision by The State:

1. Support children and young people who suffer from diseases that affect their mobility and where financial constraints do not allow the private purchase of mobility aids

2. The Victoria Foundation aims to help ensure that young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are not prevented from studying medicine due to financial constraints. The Foundation is able to support UK students studying medicine at UK universities by awarding a Toolkit Grant to help purchase books, equipment and medical instruments or a Bursary towards the cost of an overseas elective.

3. The foundation focuses its support for accessible transport to help individuals suffering from any medical condition that renders conventional transport either inaccessible or inappropriate. One specially adapted fifteen seat bus can provide an elderly, frail or medically infirm person with the opportunity to leave their home and continue life as part of the community. It can take groups of very disabled young people on special and memorable days out, providing stimulation for them and much-needed respite for their carers. Without it, the quality of life for many residents- both young and old- would be vastly reduced.

4. As the parent charity of part of the New Victoria Hospital The Victoria Foundation is able to access free private medical treatment at the hospital in Kingston, Surrey for those in financial hardship where treatment is not readily available on the NHS and where the treatment would be life-enhancing.

I would REALLY appreciate your sponsorship to raise money towards this good cause.
