Aman here, I am running the half marathon for my uncle Gurdial Singh Purewal (Who I call Thiyaji), he was and still is close and very dear to myself and my family. Thiyaji was a strong man but was ultimately taken due do his kidneys failing. Watching him suffer for many long hard years was heart breaking, he spent alot of time in Hammersmith Hospital (where the nurses grew to know him well). For years he travelled to and from the hospital to have his dialysis until one day, his body was too weak to take anymore and he was taken from us on 8th March 2007 aged 60 by renal failure.

In 2011, mine & Kams grandma Gian Kaur Sanghera (Biji) was also diagnosed with kidney problems and was also put on dialysis, along with a stoma bag (which she hated!!) Our Biji bought us up and watched us grow, she lived a not so long but very happy life, surrounded by her kids, grandkids & great Grandkids! She passed away 2 weeks ago from problems which also stemmed from renal failure.

Kam & Jo are the crazy girls who came up with the idea of running half a marathon and sucked me in! Im sure we'll be each others strength along the way, or atleast hobbling along together at the end of the run. We are running to raise as much awareness and money as we can for kidney research, in the hope that one day there will be a permanent prevention or cure for kidney disease.

Everyone that knows me will know that I cannot run to save my life so this is probably one of the most challanging things I have done, actually that all 3 of us have done!! Please support us in our mission to complete the 13.5 miles. The run is taking place on Sunday 7th October 2012, which would've been my Uncles 66th Birthday, hopefully he'll be watching down along with my gran cheering us on!!
