Story
We were in Nice last year when the Nice – Cannes marathon was on and we made a pact that next year we would be running it in any capacity in memory of Michael Moloney our
father and friend.
This wonderful corner of the world has a special place in the heart of our family because it is where our Dad spent his last happy years before he passed away from cancer.
Michael passed away at 69 years of age last September 30 and is survived by his wife Ann, two sons and daughter, two daughters in law and six grandchildren who all have the
same twinkle in their eye as Michael.
We are running the Nice- Cannes marathon for Breakthrough Cancer Research as they helped our family through some of the darkest times towards the end of Michael’s life.
In emergency, six months before he died, Michael had to be airlifted from Nice back to Ireland, as we found out that his cancer was back and more aggressive than we could have
foreseen.
Michael would have not gotten the special last 6 months of his life if it had not been for Dr Derek Power and his team at University Hospital Cork and what they did for him.
Breakthrough Cancer Research is an organisation focused on finding new treatments for the hardest to cure cancers.
Michael received a breakthrough drug in the last six months of his life – half a year of quality life that he would never have gotten if it had not been for the innovative treatment.
Unfortunately, since the cancer was so aggressive and the treatment was not advanced enough he did not survive and passed away one year ago this September.
One year later Michael’s daughter Liz, his two sons David and Tony, his daughter-in-law Aoife, and friends Jana, Sarah, Sinead, and Caroline are all running the marathon in Michael’s favourite place in the world in his memory and to raise money for the remarkable charity that is Breakthrough Cancer Research.
We ask anyone who has been affected by cancer or has seen someone they love suffer cancer to donate to our cause to give money to Breakthrough Cancer Research as they are striving to make fighting cancer and surviving a true reality for those with the most incurable and harsh form of the disease.
If you would like to know more about this marvellous charity visit their webpage, they produce free nutritional cookbooks for cancer patients, they have treated over 750 patients with their 6 new cancer treatments born out of 250 discoveries
about the disease.
They are based in Cork in Ireland but we hope to bring their research to international awareness with our marathon fundraising.
