Great North Run 2023 · 10 September 2023 ·
Me and my dad will be running the Great North Run 2023 in aid of DBA UK in support of my cousin William and all sufferers of DBA across the UK.
My cousin William is 14 years old and suffers from a rare bone marrow failure disease called Diamond Blackfan Anaemia.
He receives regular blood transfusions every 3 weeks in order to keep him alive. He also has various other medical procedures and receives treatment for the build up of iron in his body caused by all the blood transfusions.
DBA is a life long, life threatening illness and can have many serious side effects along the way. As a family we are desperate to promote awareness of the disease and the importance of giving blood.
DBA UK is a small charity and relies on a very small number of people to fundraise to provide money to fund vital research into this disease. It also provides important support to families while they go through the difficulties of battling DBA.
William is affected by this illness every single day of his life and we would love to support the charity that has supported all of his family so much over the years since William was only a few months old.
Our hope is that one day a cure will be found to help William and other sufferers of this awful disease.
This will be my first time ever completing a half marathon so any and all support is appreciated!
