We provide care in Coventry & Warwickshire to people with a terminal illness aged 18+

Story

Our story starts back in October 2016 when my wonderful husband Nigel was diagnosed with a rare stomach cancer, after only weeks we were quickly told that Nigel's cancer was terminal which was devastating news to us all.

From the beginning Nigel had been very clear to me that he really didn't want to grow his wings and travel to heaven at home, so I wanted to do everything I could to make those last few days as homely and relaxed as possible.  After speaking to the MacMillan nurses they mentioned that Myton Hospice would be a good place to visit as an option for Nigel's end of life care.  I must admit I really didn't know what to expect as I had never been to a hospice before.  So after lots of thought I decided to visit a couple, from the minute I walk in the doors to Myton Hospice Warwick the friendly & caring atmosphere was the first thing I noticed and everybody was so welcoming, while walking round the hospice I knew that this was the right place for Nigel, making a very difficult decision a lots easier than I thought ever possible.

Nigel was admitted to Myton Warwick on what was our last Valentines day together the 14th February after spending many weeks at the Coventry University Hospital where the staff took excellent care of Nig.  From the minute Nig got settled into Myton Warwick the change in him was instant he just seemed so must more relaxed and happier than I had seen him in a long time.  The care, help and support that all of the staff at Myton gave Nigel, myself, Louie and our family was overwhelming and the homely feel and attention to family needs were as important to the staff as the caring of Nigel.  We could stay with Nigel every minute of the day & night which meant that he never had to be left on his own over his last few days with us.  We were able to make every last minute, hour & moment count, this is something I will treasure forever.

Myton Hospice have fantastic facilities for all which truly does help in these difficult times and we will be eternity grateful for everything they have done for Nigel and our family.

Sadly Nigel passed away on Saturday 18th February after doing everything he could to fight this disease, as you can imagine this was a devastating time but made marginally easier knowing we were surrounded by kind and caring people.

With the help of Unipart - Baginton A and Rolls Royce Coventry we are looking to raise £5,000 this year in memory of Nigel to try and give others the opportunity to benefit from Myton's facilities.

Did you know that;

£25 - Could fund 1 hour of specialist nursing care

£106   - covers the cost of a Myton at Home patient visit

£460 - is the cost of an inpatient bed for a day !

Dig deep and donate a much or as little as you can to help us reach our target for this year.
