Story
MAY 2013
A fuller report will follow shortly but in the interim Team NonSiBi surpassed expectations, not only completing the 'Tougher' course but also cutting four hours off the projected time. Cambridge OTC was the fastest team with a time of 5 hours 45 minutes. They may well challenge Oxford OTC in 2014. The winners of the 'Tough' 20 km course with a time of 3 hours 40 was an all female team. Some of the team members of the next big WWTW expedition to the south pole in November 2013 took part and talked about the challenge of pulling a 70 kg sledge for a fortnight with one leg in -45 degrees!
APRIL 2013
Confidence is high. Having a veteran team like ours means that 50 years of experience will soak up every kilometre of the gruelling 33 km course. On top of that over a decade of military service will guarantee pinpoint map reading...! All that's needed is your generous support. Let me introduce the team:
David Tickner is Headmaster of Newcastle School for Boys, an ex RGJ TA officer who is quietly confident that he has the legs!
Graeme Hallam is the Deputy Headmaster, a mean cricketer who takes ludicrous risks on mountain bikes - he has just crossed the country in three days with his family in tow on the c2c bike route.
Lee Hogarth is Director of Sport and coaches the Blaydon Rugby Team. He promised he would do some training while taking a team of boys to play in a school cricket tournament in Dubai this Easter.
I feel probably the most confident about the WWTW challenge in May having just completed my first 30 km Allendale Challenge in April in the first decent weather we have had this Spring.
This is not the first time that the school NSB has supported WWTW. Together with the team of terrific volunteers in year 11 and 12 shown in the photo above NSB organised a sponsored 26 mile bike and walk challenge around Kielder Reservoir last October and raised over £1000 following Ed Parker's talk about the Everest Challenge to the Senior School in September.
