6th London Legal sponsored walk · 17 May 2010 ·

The London Legal Support Trust supports the work of social welfare legal centres in London and the Home Counties. Funds raised are targeted to assist requests for help from the centres. This financial aid helps the legal centres overcome funding crises, develop new services, support appeals and improve their premises.

Notre Dame Refugee Centre is raising funds to continue supporting and accompanying refugees and asylum seekers in their search for a more just and equitable place in our society, and ensuring that they have the resources to live with dignity while they are doing so.

On average, 60 people visit the drop-in on the days the centre is open. It is no coincidence that they are from countries ravaged by war and political conflict, the majority being from the Democratic Republic of Congo. A large number of visitors are women and children who are living in absolute poverty, due to their exclusion from any form of governmental support.

Here's what a few of the centre's visitors have to say: "Here we are treated like human beings, not like animals", "Coming to the centre and seeing others in similar situations gives me the knowledge and courage to persevere with my claim for asylum".
