Story

Hi, my name is Ollie.

I am 19 years old. I'll tell you some back story to understand what's been going on in my life. I suffer from depression, and find it hard to live a normal life. Because of this, I was too scared to go Specsavers, which is down the road from me, because I had been noticing for the past couple years that the vision in left eye was blurry. I finally had the courage to go and was examined for a hour and told that I had Keratoconus.

Now you might be wondering, what is Keratoconus, and why does it sound like you're saying 'Kerry Katona'? Well good question there human being. Keratoconus is a disorder of the eye in which the cornea (which is the dome that covers your eyes) gives way and turns from a dome shape to a cone shape if not treated. And sadly because of my depression and anxiety, I was too embarrassed to mention it to anyone till last year.

I am currently being treated at the L&D Hospital, where they specialise in Eye care and all that fun stuff. I had cross linking surgery for my right eye 5 weeks ago, and I feel great! And currently awaiting for a corneal transplant of the left eye.

I love music. In fact, I want to be involved in the music industry. In the short life I have lived, I have worked with some of the greatest people you could imagine, and this disorder is trying to take that away from me. But with the amazing team at my local hospital who do everything they can to give me back my life. And I'll always be grateful to them.

I am creating this page for the Moorfields Eye Charity, because they're one of the best in the world. And they are many people like me who have had their visions saved because of them.

Doctors and nurses who give their time to help people with vision difficulties and to save them in any possible are amazing. People like them help to give me my vision back, so I could only return the debt. And without the NHS or free services, I'd blind right now. And probably alone.

I hope I have managed to persuade you into donating a little bit of money to this amazing charity. Even if you gave 1p, it'd still mean the world to me.

I'll leave some FAQ's down below. If I you didn't have your question answered down below, don't hesitate to contact me and ask.

Much love,

Ollie

FAQ:

Why are you doing this?

Good question! Well it's nearly a year since I was told that I have Keratoconus, so I wanted to make a positive cause out of the anniversary.

Why are you not donating to your local hospital that treat you?

Sadly, they don't take donations for their eye clinic ward, so Moorfield, being one of the best in the world for eye treatment, was chosen!

You said you make music?

Yes. Quite good music I must say. *wink wink*

Where will all the money go to?

It will all go to Moorfield's Eye Charity (charity number: 1140679). No percentage will be taken off by me or any of my parties, but some might go towards JustGiving.

How will the money be spent on?

That is not up to me, but to Moorfields Eye Charity. But I presume it'll go to maintaining their amazing service and world renowned care.
