Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit and take a look at my page, please read on and visit my site for more information on the project and please dig deep and donate generously to this amazing cause!

Over the past 3 years I was forced to learn about Cancer. Not something I had planned on doing but definitely something that opened my eyes.

To put it bluntly, I watched it destroy someone very close to me, it pulled her life apart as she had to nurse her baby sister during the last portion of her young life that had already been devastated by this disease, this was hard to say the least and I was a bit lost and pretty useless to doing anything that could help.

I had never experienced death like this before, I grew up in a tough town with rough friends so have seen a lot of pain and loss but I had only ever seen quick death before caused by things such as weapons, drug overdoses and road traffic accidents, pretty brutal all the same but always fast and never including months of lingering pain and suffering like cancer dishes out.

I began to research this problem and see what was being done to combat it. Among the researching and information searches I found huge amounts of news about prostate and testicular cancer patients but no-one doing anything about it, this all amongst a sea of breast cancer and other specific cancer research, fund raising and charities. To be totally honest I was very upset to find out that the men of the world don't seem to care enough to come together and help fight the cancers that attack us.

Then I stumbled upon the ICR, their Everyman appeal and their research and discoveries in this field. I urge you to visit their site and read more about what they have achieved and how they lead the way in ridding us of this awful affliction. http://everyman-campaign.org

Then I had an idea and my little brain started to tick away plotting and planning, not always a good thing and trouble usually follows but this time any trouble along the way would have a positive outcome so I thought what the hell.

So I merged a childhood fantasy and a crazy idea and come up with this walk, One Man Everyman, One Man (that's me) Walking for Everyman, walking for solidarity amongst men, walking to show how much I need and hopefully deserve a little help from you all to raise just a fraction of the money required by this amazing research appeal to continue their work.

My plan is to walk 12,000 miles, from Italy to Los Angeles. I will be walking for the entire journey apart from 2 small sea crossings, one from Italy to Montenegro and another from Russia to Alaska. I will be travelling alone for the entire journey, living off the land and battling what mother nature has in store.

I decided that in order to expect other men to dig deep and help, I would need to make a sacrifice and do something special(or stupid, depends on your outlook of my plan). Then I could at least hope for a small donation from all the other men out there. I am really talking small too, my final target may be quite high but it would not take much to reach it if all of us men bound together and donated just a small amount each.

Please visit the One Man Everyman site to see more info about my project and a map of the journey I will be travelling. http://onemaneveryman.com

I think that's enough about me now as this is not really about me.

I don't want to fill you up with my sob story just to get you to donate, I want you to take some time to look into the problem and the amazing work being done by the Everyman Appeal to deal with it.

I want you to feel that donating is important and that your sacrifice of just a few £'s will go a long way, just as I am going a long way in order to encourage your assistance in reaching my donation goal.

I am leaving this just giving page open for the next few years as my trip will take well over 2 years to complete, I will keep this thread and my project site updated during the journey and hopefully if people see my progress and some proof of that progress, it may encourage them to trust a complete stranger like me and give a little more.

Every single penny you donate through this just giving page goes directly to the ICR and the Everyman Appeal, your money goes straight to helping fund their research.

So please dig deep and help this amazing cause!

RCN exempt charity status
Everyman is an appeal run by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Every year some 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason we are fundraising for male specific cancers.
