Newcastle Hospitals Charity is the official Charity of Newcastle Hospitals. Home of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and the Great North Children's Hospital, we help our hospitals go further by making a positive difference for our patients, staff and communities.

Story

Hello!

As you may or may not know, our good friend Alex Britton (Alex, Ally, Al, something brutal and abusive) was told he had Hogkins Lymphoma earlier this year, a type of cancer affecting the white blood cells and the immune system. Treatment is going extremely well and he is cracking on tremendously but he is currently undergoing premature hair loss brought on by his regular chemotherapy.

Being the demanding fellow that he is, he has decided he does not want to go bald alone (what a jerk eh), so being the fine friends that we are, we are going to shave our heads in an effort to make him feel less like an egghead and most importantly, to raise some money for a fantastic charity.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was set up by the man himself in the last 18 months of his life, which was plagued by a 17 year battle with cancer. In partnership with Newcastle Hospitals and Newcastle University, the charity heavily funds research into anti-cancer drug treatments. Generous support has enabled the charity to set up a specialist cancer trials research centre at Freeman Hospital and has funded a number of doctors and nurses.

Now, you have been directed here because you are friends of one or many of these soon-to-be bald gentlemen/lady:
Liam Britton (Leem)
Dean Shorten (Shorty)
Dean Hall
Chris Jefferson (Jaffa)
Tom Bevan
Kayleigh Nichols (Pies)
Craig Wood (Doz)
Graeme Wood
Mark Gerrens (Gerry)
Alex Sidey
Graeme Trotter

Each one of these has volunteered to part with their golden locks for a special cause (yes one of them is a GIRL) and we would like you to pledge some money to make that generous sacrifice a little easier to bear!

Now for the most exciting part. We are allowing you, the paying public, to witness, and possibly take part in, the de-hairing of any of these young mens'/woman's pretty little heads. We will be shaving heads (sheering animals if you're Gerry) on November the 24th at The Vale of Derwent Working Mens Club - Burnopfield Road, Rowlands Gill, Tyne and Wear NE39 1QG.
This promises to be a spectacular evening with Second Day generously playing for us (in bald wigs is the rumour), a raffle, and lots of other ways for you to donate money should you wish! If not, just come down and enjoy the evening, show your support to the guys, watch them squeem under the clippers and have a dance and a drink! Second Day always promises to be packed out regardless! Get down from 7.30 onwards to ensure you don't miss the loss of one single hair.

Please leave your name in the description and a little message of support telling us who and why you are sponsoring any one of the gang in particular.

UPDATE: we have now set up a text facility to make donations easier! Just text BALD56 followed by the amount you want to give eg "BALD56 £2" to 70070. It will be added on your bill at the end of the month, or taken out directly if you are pay as you go : )

This is a brilliant cause and promises to be a fantastic evening for all involved!
