Participants: My dear friend, Sadiq Kara & the double Olympic champion, Sir Mo Farah
Story
Hi, thank you for visiting my page.
One autumn afternoon I was on my lunch break at work when all of a sudden I received a phone call from my dear friend, Sadiq (More about him here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MohammedKara). It was a phone call like no other.
Sadiq lives in London, with his wife and two beautiful children. He follows me on social media like Snapchat & Instagram (@ophthomar) and started off by telling me how inspired he felt by my regular posts of being at the gym carrying out HIIT sessions, sometimes even twice a day.
Sadiq then asked me to join him in running a ½ Marathon in the spring. At first, I was a little hesitant, as I didn't feel as though I'd be fit enough to run one.
But then, Sadiq told me all about his wonderful daughter and her medical condition, Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH), and how he was working closely with Evelina Children's Hospital and the charity, Heart UK in an attempt to raise awareness of this hereditary condition which, if left untreated, could lead to deterioration in health and a possible cardiac arrest.
I was moved. The dedication and the passion Sadiq has for this cause is second to none. I felt, as my duty as his close friend - also feeling quite honoured that he approached me first out of his vast social circles - that the least I could do was to help raise a little money and awareness for this cause and motivate each other to complete this 13 mile run, not just for Sadiq, not just for his 7 year old daughter, but for everyone who is affected by this condition, from patients, to worried parents, caring nurses and doctors, and to be part of making the world that little better of a place to live in :)
