The William Duncan + Co Charitable Trust has been set up to support charitable causes and make donations to various local community based charities and projects.

Story

At Oricom we've always been committed to working with and supporting local charities. Each year as our business grows, so does our opportunity to support.

As a local Ayrshire business, when we heard about the decision last year by Clic Sargent to close and sell off Malcolm Sargent House we wanted to find out more about how we could help.

Malcolm Sargent House is in Prestwick on the Ayrshire coast and was originally named in memory of Sir Malcolm Sargent, the home was established as part of a holiday service more than 45 years ago for young cancer patients and their families.

It became part of CLIC Sargent’s holiday service when two charities – Malcolm Sargent Cancer Care for children and CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood) merged in 2005.

Over the years, thousands of families have been able to stay at Malcolm Sargent House and enjoy a holiday during or after cancer treatment in a stunning setting and relaxed atmosphere, meeting others and sharing their experiences.

Shortly after the announcement to close MSH a committee was set up with the initial aim of buying the property to continue the work and keep alive the memories housed there. Clic Sargent have since announced that they have a property developer willing to pay them a figure of 1.75 million - it is assumed, as it has not been officially confirmed that they will knock down the house to build retirement flats. The committee had their own valuations carried out and as a charity they were very low, as a house the value was 850k, and as commercial land it was £1 million maximum. That's almost £1 million of a difference between either party valuations. CLIC Sargent want to sell to the highest bidder to get as much as they can to inject back into their charity for children with cancer.

The committee, the Board of Trustees and the community want to keep this vital service provision in Ayrshire and open for the same children but can't pay this overvalued price - it's not feasible.

MSH and the Valentine's Day Dip go hand in hand and on Sunday the 19th of February Team Oricom will be braving the cold waters to raise funds to create a new MSH.

The new charity name is 'Ayrshire Holiday Dreams Foundation (MSH)' and the house will be renamed at a later date. As the committee are still awaiting a charity registration number from OSCR a Board of Trustees has been set up. http://www.buymsh.com/

As a family business, we are very passionate about supporting this worthy cause and hope you will support our fundraising efforts too.

Thanks in advance for your support.
