My name is Oscar and I'm 8 1/2 months old. Two weeks ago I had life saving open heart surgery at the Childrens Heart Unit in the Freeman Hospital. Just two days before that, I was diagnosed with Cor Triatriartum, an extremely rare congenital heart defect which up until that day, had been missed by lots and lots of doctors.

I was extremely poorly, but nobody realised quite how ill I was because I was such a happy boy. All of the doctors at the RVI said I was "just a chesty baby". Luckily, my mummy and daddy pushed and got an appointment at the Freeman hospital where the problem was diagnosed immediately.

Within 2 days of finding out I had a CHD I was in theatre where the surgeons removed a membrane which had been causing lots of problems and stopping my blood from pumping as it should. My mummy and daddy were very very scared indeed as the doctors had told them the operation was risky and they didnt know how long it would take me to get better, but the nurses were lovely and made them feel a little less afraid.

Now I feel really great and even though I'm still sore I don't mind because I feel so much better than I did before I had my operation. I am always laughing and babbling and I havent stopped eating since I got home.

Mummy and daddy don't like to think of where we'd all be without the Childrens Heart Unit, which is why were all going to do the CHUF toddle this year at Close House.
