Solo, off-road, self-supported 850km ride from Malaga to Murcia · 5 June 2015

The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

On 5 June I embark on a(nother) crazy bike ride. This time, its 850km through the mountains of southern Spain, starting in Malaga and finishing in Murcia.

I'll be riding solo, off-road, with all my gear on my mountain bike, covering (almost) the equivalent elevation of Mt Everest TWICE during one week's ride (56,000ft).

...and to top it off, the day after I finish I'm running the Hardmoors Osmotherley Trail Marathon.

But its all for a good cause. I spend the best of my days on the North York Moors, so it seems only right to help a cause that helps so many of us in and around the Cleveland / NY Moors area.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE RIDE

I'll ride North from Malaga to Antequera, then East, skirting round mainland Spain's highest mountain (El Mulhacen), through one of Europe's highest villages (Trevelez), then South through Almeria. I'll keep the Mediterranean on my right as I ride North through Cabo de Gata and in to Murcia.
