We refurbish secondhand bikes to donate to refugees and asylum seekers.

Story

Imagine living on £37 a week. It's not enough for food, never mind travel costs. The Bike Project takes second-hand bikes, fixes them up and donates them to refugees from Ukraine, Syria, Iran and other countries ravaged by war and human rights abuses. Having a bike not only gives them a sense of independence, it enables them to more easily access food banks, legal advice, healthcare and education.

In June I'll be participating in the Raid Pyrenean Cycling Challenge, riding from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean in less than 100 hours. Along the way I'll be climbing many of the famous mountains of the Pyrenees, including the Col d'Aubisque, the Col de Peyresourde, and the legendary Col du Tourmalet. The full route is 725km with 12,500 metres of climbing. Daunting, but still less than a quarter of the distance refugees from Ukraine are having to travel to reach the UK.

Our mission is simple: to get refugees cycling! We take second-hand bikes, fix them up, and donate them to refugees and asylum seekers. A bike helps refugees and asylum-seekers access food banks, legal advice, healthcare, education and much more.
