Oxfordshire STARS

Oxfordshire STARS · 31 December 2021
Over the past year, the Oxfordshire STARS Team have been very restricted in raising funds for Marie Curie and we realise it has been an incredibly difficult time for everyone including the many wonderful charities that support individuals all over the country.
Marie Curie Nurses have been on the frontline throughout the fight against coronavirus, caring for people who are terminally ill in their homes and in our hospices. The nurses have soldiered on putting other individual’s lives first and for that I want to thank them.
The pandemic means our frontline healthcare services have never been more needed and so the fight to raise the funds to keep the Marie Curie nurses working continues.
You'll have noticed the lack of volunteers up and down the country who support Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal. It unlikely you’ll hear about many large fundraising events in the near future too. Having said that, the Oxfordshire STARS Team are still here and we do still care about those who really depend on us – not only the terminally ill people, but also their loved ones.
The Oxfordshire STARS organise a whole host of events throughout the year including our Quiz Nights, Bingo's Chris' London to Brighton Cycle Challenge, Social event and UK and overseas charity treks.Chris Rawlings will be cycling 55 miles from London to Brighton on Sunday, 19th September 2021 to raise funds for Marie Curie. This is a really tough challenge as it includes cycling up and over Ditchling Beacon. He will certainly earn his sponsorship as he pedals for this wonderful cause! ;o) Yorkshire Trek, Friday, 1st to Tuesday, 5th October 2021. Our Autumn trek will include four days walking and one day at leisure in the beautiful city of York. Participants will be based in the beautiful Victorian town of Ilkley. Over the four days they will enjoy a variety of walks including panoramic views across Airedale from Druid’s Altar on the St Ives Estate near Bingley. Romantic walks through ancient woodland at Bolton Abbey, where the River Wharfe thunders through a narrow gorge between rocks. Stunning views from Ilkley over to Addingham and alongside the River Wharfe. Wide sweeping views and excellent photographic opportunities at Ingleton Falls where the water passes through deep gorges, with rapids and whirlpools. As a reward for four days trekking they will have a day at leisure in York with its walled city, huge 13th-century Gothic Cathedral, the ancient Shambles, or York Museum where they can immerse themselves in over 400 years of history! This trek, while not overly strenuous, will be a challenge for some and they will need a good level of fitness to take part. Yorkshire is far from flat as you'll know! Each participant will also pledge to raise a minimum of £45.00 for Marie Curie in Sponsorship.
Those who are taking part in the Yorkshire Trek include Nicky Clargo, Chris Rawlings, Mo Gray, Mickey Fry, Sean Hazell, Mandy Van Zydam, Bernie Harris, Marilyn Dearnley, Jill May, Kim Weston, Christine King, Steve Dance, Denise Fitzgerald, Matt Wixey, Kerry Brewer, Ali Webber, Amanda Sinclair, Julie Beardmore, CarolynSampson, Wendy Longbottom, Sophie Dyer, Leoine Butler, Simon McGinn, Deborah Cross, Martin Marias, Gail Collins Joan Coombs, Chris and Tanya Morton. Some individuals go through the toughest of times. Your donations will help ensure Marie Curie Nurses can be there for people at the end of their lives and for that we want to thank you.
