About Paddlers for Life Windermere
In 1996 a Canadian doctor's research scientifically proved the positive effects of dragon boat paddling on preventing lymphoedema (a common irreversible side-effect of breast cancer treatment). Today there are over 300 breast cancer survivors' dragon boat teams paddling worldwide.
We paddle dragon boats on Windermere at Low Wood Bay near Ambleside in Cumbria, UK.
Our members are people who have been treated for cancer, family members, friends and other supporters. The friendship, shared experience and team spirit of paddling can be extremely supportive after a cancer diagnosis.
Our mission statement:
To relieve sickness and protect and preserve good health for persons facing cancer, in particular but not exclusively breast cancer, or persons in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness, within Cumbria and Lancashire, by providing or assisting in the provision for physical activity and recreation, notably dragon boating.
Our aims:
To promote awareness and education
To demonstrate people can still lead a full and active life despite breast cancer
To provide support and fellowship to those who want to participate
Please join us for …
Keeping fit, having fun, and making new friends in beautiful surroundings.
We support cancer survivors and their families and friends from NW England.
Everyone is welcome to visit us at our paddling location on Windermere.
Thank you for supporting us!
