Lisa's fundraiser for Paddlers for Life Windermere

Lisa Smith is raising money for Paddlers for Life Windermere

Coniston End to End Swim · 2 August 2025

Dragon boat paddling can prevent lymphoedema (a common side-effect of breast cancer treatment). Our members also benefit from friendship, shared experience and the team spirit of paddling, which can be extremely supportive after a cancer diagnosis. Thank you for supporting us!

Story

On August 2nd I will be taking part in the Coniston End to End swim. This is 5.25 miles, a distance way longer than anything I have attempted before in open water. Although I love to swim this is a huge challenge.

I am lucky to be involved with Paddlers for Life Windermere. Since my breast cancer diagnosis in 2018 and recovery, I have enjoyed the benefit and support of this amazing charity. To help it continue and support many more people affected by cancer, fundraising is essential. This is why I have chosen to raise money for this fantastic organisation.

I would appreciate any support no matter how small to keep this charity thriving. Here is Paddlers for Life mission statement and a little more information.

“To relieve sickness and protect and preserve good health for persons facing cancer, in particular but not exclusively breast cancer, or persons in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness, within Cumbria and Lancashire, by providing or assisting in the provision for physical activity and recreation, notably dragon boating.

Our members are people who have been treated for cancer, most often breast cancer, or family members and friends or other supporters.

We paddle dragon boats on Windermere at Low Wood Bay near Ambleside in Cumbria, UK. This exercise helps health and wellbeing both during and after treatment and also ameliorates some of the effects of treatment such as lymphoedema and tiredness. The friendship, shared experience and team spirit of paddling can be extremely supportive after a cancer diagnosis”.

Thank you very much for your support.
