Storrie family GCR 2013

St George's School Great Curry Run 2013 · 26 September 2012
Yes, running again next April in GCR number 3, but this time almost the whole family are in on the event. Julie and I hope to run10 metres for every service person killed or wounded in action in Afghanistan, a distance of 24km. Doctors whining at me about being careful not to get stress fractures... Pah ! Flora and Guy are doing the short version of 4km (10 metres for each soldier killed in action) the same day. Julie up to 17km in training...but I keep getting ill, having too much work as Acting Head etc. Two months to go... Argh.
We have just heard the names of the four soldiers we have been allocated, whose stories may help us all to keep going. Paddy is running for Trooper Jack Sadler, who went to the same school in Exeter. Jack was killed on 4th December 2007, and you can see a moving tribute to him done by his dad at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8221901.stm (cut and paste it into your browser). Jack was killed when his vehicle was blown up by an IED. Julie is running for Flight Sergeant Gary Andrews, who was killed when his Nimrod reconaissance plane caught fire and crashed. Guy is running for Rifleman Jonathan Allott, killed on foot patrol on 5th March 2010. He was only 19 years old. Flora is running for Fusilier Simon Annis, who was killed aged 22 near Sangin. You can find out more about any of them by cutting and pasting:

Their families may never realise or find out that strangers are running in their memory. Makes no difference. If you can spare some sponsorship, it'd be great.
