Velindre Cancer Services provides treatment, care and support to patients and their families. Money raised by our fundraisers allows us to support projects over and above those provided by the NHS including ground breaking research, specialist equipment, nurses and staff training.

Story

Steve Andrews along with Nige Locke, Steve Payne and Lee Wickett will be trekking 117 miles non stop from the north coast to the south coast of Devon in October 24 to raise money for Velindre cancer treatment centre in Cardiff.

Roger Andrews (father of Steve) was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma in Aug 20, the cancer was extremely aggressive and he was initially given 6 months to live without treatment and approx 12 months with treatment. He chose the latter and commenced radiotherapy and chemotherapy shortly after at Velindre cancer hospital in Cardiff.

The treatment he received was fantastic in every way and it extended his life by a significant amount, he unfortunately finally lost his battle with cancer in 2023 and died in May of that year.

The treatment and care he received in Velindre allowed Roger more precious time with his family and friends and for that the family are eternally grateful.

Devon 117 is about raising precious money so others may benefit for the fantastic treatment and have their lives extended in the same way Roger had.
