Story

This May, I will be walking 100 miles to raise money for Breast Cancer Now! 🚶

Did you know a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 10 minutes in the UK? 🎀

For the past two years, I’ve been living with chronic back pain—originally dismissed as ‘post-partum adjustment’ by the NHS. I tried everything: physiotherapy, daily use of a TENS machine, countless types of pain relief… Honestly, it was more painful than childbirth. Simple tasks became overwhelming, my self-esteem plummeted and weight gain followed as my mobility decreased. All whilst trying to run a business and raise a newborn, who to hold was just agony. It was so debilitating.

But deep down, I knew something wasn’t right...

Thanks to Bupa, I was finally able to get an MRI, which revealed arthritis in my lower spine. Since then, I’ve had two back procedures (at Harley Street and Spire Leicester) and spent the last 10 months in weekly/fortnightly physiotherapy and acupuncture—doing everything I can to avoid a third, more invasive surgery. It’s been a slow road, but I’ve been working hard to rebuild my strength, and confidence and get back to doing the things I love: moving, exercising and getting outside... and the main goal is being able to hold my toddler without being in pain or relying on a tens machine.

Then, at the start of 2025, I noticed some ongoing abnormalities in my left breast. Given my family history—my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, and my nana sadly passed away from it in 2016—I’d always promised I’d take any changes seriously. I was referred to Peterborough Breast Clinic and was so grateful for the swift, supportive, and genuinely kind care I received. Thankfully, everything came back completely normal. But the experience left a lasting impression.

So this May, I’m taking on Breast Cancer Now’s 100 Miles in May challenge—for myself, for my fitness and my confidence. For my mum. For my Nana. For the incredible research that helps detect and treat breast cancer sooner and more effectively.

This challenge might sound small to some, but eight months ago, I wouldn’t have dreamed I could take on something like this. But here I am, feeling confident and excited to take on a challenge and raise funds for an incredible charity very close to my heart.
