Story

Hi, my name is Bargie (Lewis), and I’m setting out to achieve something slightly crazy on December 6th—running 100 miles in the Winter on the Downs ultramarathon, attempting to complete this feat in 24 hours. This isn’t just a personal challenge; it’s a heartfelt mission to make a difference in the lives of people facing homelessness.

Why I’m Running

For me, running is more than a sport—it’s a way to connect with resilience, determination, and hope. But I know that for many, hope feels far away. That’s why I’m dedicating this effort to St. Martin’s Housing Trust, an incredible charity in Norwich that provides life-changing support to people experiencing homelessness. Their work isn’t just about providing shelter; it’s about restoring dignity, offering stability, and creating brighter futures.

The Challenge

Winter on the Downs is not for the faint-hearted: 100 miles of rugged trails, steep climbs, and icy winds. The physical and mental toll will be immense, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges faced daily by those who have nowhere to call home. Every step I take will remind me of the people I’m running for—people who, despite their struggles, show immense courage and strength.

How You Can Help

Your support means the world to me, but more importantly, it can mean the world to someone in need. Every pound raised will go directly to St. Martin’s Housing Trust, funding vital services such as emergency housing, counselling, and skills training. Together, we can offer hope, warmth, and a fresh start to those who need it most.

On a More Personal Note

The race will go through December 6th into the 7th, marking exactly one year since we lost our Grandma, Jackie. She was the amazing lady that demonstrated and taught me to help others at any opportunity, especially those less fortunate than us. So, this race is dedicated to her and all the other beautifully caring individuals we have lost along the way.

Please donate whatever you can. Whether it’s a little or a lot, every contribution will help me take one step closer to the finish line—and one step closer to a world where everyone has a place to call home.

Thank you for believing in this cause and for joining me on this journey.

Peace and love, always.
