Story

I have worked with Andy Barnes “Barnsy” for almost 15 years and he is not just a colleague but a friend. Unfortunately he got the terrible news just after Christmas that he had a 3.5cm tumour on the front right side of the brain. After a 5 hour surgery and several scans the doctors shared the devastating news that it wasn’t treatable. He now faces a massive fight on his hands to get through the treatment and get the maximum out of his life. Barnsy’s attitude to the fight is “Bring it on Bit**es”. Barnsy recognises that he not only has a physical fight on his hands but a mental one, and I know all the support goes a long way with him.

So on his his 57th Birthday, to raise money and awareness I am going to fight through 12 Hero workouts in 12 hours with My Coach Mikey and Battle Cancer Advocator Pete. This will only be 0.0000001% of the fight that Barnsy will face but I know that anything to help raise money and awareness of his fight and the charity will help. To choose the 12 workouts I printed off 20 and put them in a hat, that Barnsy then pulled 12 from.

The 12 workouts (which you can google “*name* hero workout” are;

DT 08:00AM

DORK 09:00AM

HORTON 10:00AM

OMAR 11:00AM

CrossFit hero workouts are benchmark WODs dedicated to servicemen and servicewomen who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

These workouts are especially important not only because are they made to commemorate the namesakes of each workout, but rather all of those who gave their lives in the service of their country.

CrossFit athletes from around the world perform these workouts to simulate the suffering many endured during their service and as a way to honour their memory. As a result, these hero WODs are not for the faint hearted.

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we're moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour.

They are set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And we're doing it right now. Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
