15K on the 15th

The Birmingham Winter Warmer Run 2025 · 15 February 2025
On Saturday 15th February 2025, our Dad would have celebrated his 70th birthday. He passed away on 15th December 2012, aged 57 from a rare mitochondrial myopathy, which affects the body’s energy production.
We still find it very difficult to come to terms with what happened.
Not a day passes where we don’t think of our Dad. He was a gentle soul, a kind man of few words, with endless love to give. Whenever you would ask him if he needed anything or wanted anything, even to his last days his response would be, “nothing I have everything”.
Mitochondrial myopathy is complex. We didn’t really understand it then, we still don’t fully understand it now. This is partly why we are raising awareness and supporting the charity My Mito Mission. In the hope that individuals and families that are affected by mitochondrial diseases will receive the support that they need, and so that research can continue into this complicated medical condition, which is currently without cure.
Around 1 in 5000 adults and children are affected by Mitochondrial disease. That is similar to say, cystic fibrosis and motor neurone disease – and yet mito is relatively unknown.
In support of My Mito’s cause and in loving memory of our Dad, we will be running 15K (collectively) in the Winter Warmer Run, in our hometown of Birmingham.
If you would like to support us in this endeavour by making a donation, any amount would be deeply appreciated.
With love and good wishes,
Ashina, Shafina & Alysha
