Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are writing to share an exciting and meaningful expedition that we are about to embark on, and we would love for you to be a part of it.

From 5 November 2023, Jose and I will be joining the first stage of the journey to be undertaken by around 30 individuals on a historic road trip in India, from Kullu, the 'Valley of Gods' in the Western Himalayas, all the way to the Southernmost tip of India, Kanyakumari. This journey will span an impressive 5,150 kilometres, in four stages of a week each, taking us through diverse landscapes, cultures, and experiences. What makes this journey even more special is that we will be joining 50% of the participants who will be traveling on motorbikes.

But this adventure is not just about the thrill of the road and the breath-taking scenery; it's also an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of those in need. We are proud to be participating this road trip in support of “Saving Lives International” (www.isavinglives.org), a UK based charity actively dedicated to disaster medicine and disaster relief work projects in India and Nepal. ‘Saving Lives Foundation’ - The Faculty of Disaster Medicine – India & Nepal (FDMIN) is a pioneering programme of the ‘Saving Lives’ project of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, founded by the Millennium President Dr. (Prof.) Peter Patel.

The FDMIN has evolved from over 22 years of front-line investment in disaster rehabilitation work in South Asia. Dr. (Prof.) Peter Patel and his Rotarian and non-Rotarian colleagues have worked in and supported post disaster rehabilitation programmes from Latur earthquake (1993), Orissa cyclone (1999) Bangladesh floods (1998), Gujarat cyclone (1998), Gujarat/Kutch earthquake (2001), Tsunami of 2004, supporting South India and Sri Lanka, Nepal earthquake (2015), and many other pro-active disaster training programmes in Goa, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Indore, Kochi, Srinagar, Kathmandu just to list a few.

Our mission is simple: to raise funds for this noble cause.

Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to “Saving Lives International” to support disaster medicine efforts, disaster relief work, and the countless lives they touch in the wake of natural disasters and emergencies.

During the trip, international experts and experts from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, partners for developing Disaster Medicine training will undertake training and awareness workshops on ‘Disaster Medicine’, impacts of disasters on the health of the population and need for medical and healthcare professionals to plan for preparedness, response and recovery phases.

Here's how you can get involved and make a difference:

1. Donate: Your financial support will enable Saving Lives International to provide medical aid, emergency relief, and life-saving resources to communities in distress.

2. Spread the Word: Help us reach a wider audience by sharing our journey and fundraising efforts with your friends, family, and colleagues. Every share brings us one step closer to our fundraising goal.

3. Follow Our Journey: Stay connected with us throughout the trip by following our social media updates. We will be sharing photos, stories, and videos of our adventure and the impact we are making along the way. (www.facebook.com/isavinglives)

Your support means the world to me and the entire team. Together, we can make a significant impact and be a part of something truly extraordinary. Let's come together to help those in need and create a brighter future for the communities served by “Saving Lives International”.

Thank you for considering my request, and we look forward to sharing this incredible journey with you.

Warm regards,

Ainura & Jose
