Another year has flown by and Team Walky McWalkyson are back in training for three amazing events this summer for Macmillan. 

As a recap for those of you who are new to our charity shenanigans … we started hiking for Macmillan back in 2019 as our team captain Laura was recovering from her breast cancer treatment. With her parents, brother and sister in tow, the team raised over £3000 … fuelled mainly by skittles and smarties! Then the dreaded Covid struck and after a cancellation in 2020 we tackled another hike in 2021 with the Amazing Anna joining the team … resulting in a celebratory night in a yurt with the kids and a very old bottle of champagne! With another £1900 raised we were prepping for our next hike when Laura started treatment again, this time for ovarian cancer. After surgery and chemo we hiked again in 2022 with three amazing new team members in the form of the Lovely Lou, Victorious Vicky and Magnificent Matt! Last year we tackled two more hikes … the Giants Causeway and the Peak District in July and also welcomed some mini members to the team who did the Little Mudder!

This year we are going to take on three events. In May we will be organising a mini hike of 10 Miles for our mini team of Barney, Eve, Finlay and Ben - they have already put their order in for as many sweets as they can eat in a day and will be taking on Rivington Pike and Liverpool Castle. Next, at the end of May, our incredible Matt will be upping the pace and running the Manchester 10K and then in June we will be finishing with the London Mighty Hike and welcoming Ann and Nina to the team who could not resist a stomp in their home town!

We feel so proud of everything we have raised for Macmillan over the years and are so so grateful to everyone who has sponsored us! It really does mean the world to us! We know that times are tough and there are many great causes out there to sponsor but if you could spare a few pounds for Team Walky McWalkyson then we promise to eat our body weight in sweets to get ourselves over the finish lines! 

We are walking this year for everyone affected by cancer. For those we love so much and those around them. Everyone in the team has someone in their lives affected by cancer … in fact everyone reading our story will have too.
