Story
The Koster Cup is being played on the 19th October at the Cambridge University rugby ground in memory of Nick Koster, who passed away last year after a battle with depression.
He started his professional career at the Stormers, breaking into a star-studded back row. He then moved over to the UK with Bath rugby before finishing his professional career at Bristol Rugby.
A man that took great enjoyment from the amateur values of the sport, namely enjoying a drink with the opposition in the changing room after a game, singing songs or playing pranks on the training paddock.
Never more strongly was his impact on the game felt than during his year as captain at Cambridge, where he built a legacy that student players long after him will benefit from, whilst raising money for the mental health charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
It’s this charity CALM that 40+ of his old student mates will roll out in competition together to raise some awareness and funds in honour of Nick. A charity that is working to alleviate mental health and help people like Nick find a path other than suicide.
