Hyrox Pro Doubles - Stockholm · 7 December 2024

The Wilderness Programme is a registered UK charity providing a residential, non-medical mental health recovery programme specifically designed for adult individuals over the age of 21 years to meet the needs of those coming to terms with, or in recovery of issues such as addictions, professional burn out, stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health related problems. The programme also facilitates those who are struggling with aspects of life such as low self esteem, low confidence, feeling lost or lacking direction.

Story

4 Average Joe’s (Rob, Archie, Alex & Josh) from the Dale Property team are heading to Stockholm in just one months’ time to ‘compete’ in the Hyrox Pro Doubles event… yes you read that correctly, not just the normal division (why make life easier?) but the Pros.

The 2x pairs, none of whom have done this before, will be lining up against the likes of Hunter McIntyre (who set the current world record during the 2023 Stockholm event) & current world champion Alexander Roncevic. To give some context, one person in the group (no names…) believes playing cricket on a Sunday constitutes enough weekly exercise. In our heads we may think we look similar to these two, the reality may be somewhat different.

We must admit that we have tried/begged the organisers to change divisions, (even arguing that we would be getting in the way of the elite athletes vying for world championship places) but they seem to want us to suffer*. So with the attitude of ‘what’s the worst that could happen’ off we go…

(*Hyrox have since amended their pro entry rules – you now have to have completed at least one normal event to be able to enter a pro event… lucky us…)

For those unfamiliar with the format, there are 8 stations with a 1km run before each (8km in total). Each duo must complete the runs together but can split up the stations however they wish, i.e. one person could do 900m of the row and the other 100m.

The official Hyrox website gives a little more info on the event itself & if you really fancy a laugh, here’s a video of our ‘competition’ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4-vPHS0sAM

The aim here, apart from survival, is to raise money for The Wilderness Programme. This is a wonderful charity & you can find out more information on them below. In an attempt to maximise donations we will be forwarding a live stream YouTube link to anyone donating over £10. If you find yourself looking for a laugh on Saturday 7th December, this could be money well spent.

All jokes aside, any donation big or small is hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance and wish us luck, we’re certainly going to need it!
