Story
Fi was so fiercely loyal, kind, selfless and tenacious, she truly embodied the meaning of friendship. If someone she loved said the sky was green, Fi would convince the world the sky was green. We had the pleasure of a beautiful friendship for over 20 years, we grew up together. She would be howling at the thought of us running 13.1 miles when our running portfolio used to only extend to beck jumping or knocky door run.
In February 2022, Fi was diagnosed with TFE3 Renal Cell Carcinoma, a rare form of kidney cancer. Despite everything she faced, she handled it with such incredible bravery and selflessness, which never wavered. Losing Fi to cancer has left a huge hole for everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her, but it’s also brought us together to honour her in a way that reflects her spirit…with determination, love and grit.
The charity we are raising money for is Teesside Hospice, who rely solely on donations. It is a charity in a small town but their work and impact on the community is huge. The hospice employees are true angels, they cared for Fi so beautifully. The support, compassion and dignity provided meant the world during such a difficult time. When you hear the saying ‘going above and beyond’ Teesside Hospice goes further. When caring for Fi, they granted her wish of a wedding with a 2-week turnaround! Taking part in the Great North Run is our way of saying thank you. Truly. The money raised is to make sure others receive that same care when they need it most.
The parts of us that we’re most proud of were probably shaped or influenced by Fi. She so effortlessly had a way to make you feel so so loved, seen and celebrated and we love and miss her greatly. On the 13th September, we know that she will be with us every step of the way. She’s already shown us that in our early morning, rainy, windy or frosty runs.
We would be ever so grateful for any donations, it truly is going to an amazing cause.
Thank you so much for your support, it means so much to us!
