Story
1st Doddington Scout Group is a charity run entirely by volunteers. The group currently has about 140 Young People as members aged from 4y to 17y (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers) and provides weekly Scouting activities in term time, as well as multiple camps, events and adventurous activities. Scouting helps develop #Skills For Life. The Scout Group needs to fundraise to help purchase equipment, maintain the Scout Centre and keep the costs of events (such as camps, including our Camp in Belgium planned for Aug 2024) as low as possible, so our members can all benefit from all that Scouting has to offer.
So... 3 of us who are leaders within the Group - Helen, Sara & Alys - are setting out on 25th August to walk the 83.4 miles that is the Snowdonia Slate Trail... gorgeous scenery, but a lot of miles on foot to see it all! We are planning to walk the whole trail in 6 days, camping in the area too; we will be pushing ourselves to walk long distances each day, along with seeing what the Welsh weather throws at us... it's definitely going to be challenge...
Why...?! Because we are a 'bit mad', love to be outdoors, like a "challenge" and strongly believe in the ethos of Scouting, and all that being in the movement can offer both Young People and adult volunteers too.
So, if you can spare us a few pennies or a few pounds, we would be extremely grateful; and it will help us keep putting one foot in front of the other over the Snowdonia hills... over, and over, and over, again...!
